2020-2021 CMAE Nominations Forms

2020-2021 NCAE Convention, NEA Convention, and CMAE Officer NOMINATION FORMS INSTRUCTIONS

 

Dear Association Members:

 

It is time for Nominations for the NCAE State Convention (Raleigh, NC - March 26-27, 2021). If you are interested in nominating yourself or another member, Nominees for CMAE Officer and NEA Convention Representative are asked to please include a professional photograph of yourself and a brief biography (current assignment, years of experience in education, participation/service in NEA/NCAE/CMAE).

Please send this information in a Word Document (picture and brief biography) to the CMAE Administrative Assistant, Ira LaVerne Reed, by fax (980) 237-9161 or by email (irareed74@gmail.com) or mail to the CMAE office at 4523 Park Road, Suite 102A, Charlotte, NC 28209, NO LATER THAN Friday, December 22, 2020 by 5:00 pm. 

 

Please note the following expectations for convention delegates:

1. If you are nominated and are elected to represent CMAE you are expected to attend the convention. If you do not attend after your name is submitted to the State as a delegate, you will be required to reimburse the local for any financial assistance given.
2. If elected as a delegate, you are expected to attend all convention sessions and activities that are scheduled for delegates during the convention.
3. If elected as a delegate, you are expected to share your experiences from the NCAE convention at the next AR meeting (April 15, 2021).

Please share this information with other members in your building.

 

** Out of consideration to members who want to experience this opportunity, if you are unsure you can attend and fully participate in the convention, please reconsider placing your name on the ballot.

CMAE has allotted to fund four (4) NEA Convention Delegates and the four will be elected in our March election. **With your NEA Convention Nomination Form, please submit a professional picture and a brief biography of yourself, which includes your professional work and CMAE/NCAE participation.

Thank You for Your Service

On November 11, America celebrates Veterans Day, an observance first started with Armistice Day in 1919, and then, since 1954, as Veterans Day, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower expanded the focus to include all veterans in addition to those who served in World War I. We offer our gratitude to all military veterans. Especially veterans that have taken the time to serve as educators in our schools after their military careers.

This Veterans Day, I encourage everyone to set aside a few moments to remember and honor those who have served our country in the Armed Forces. Veterans Day offers a chance for reflection on what words like justice, freedom, sacrifice, and resilience really mean. I personally want our veterans and active service men and women, as well as their families, to know how much we appreciate their service and sacrifices. 

To veterans and their families, we express our eternal gratitude this Veterans Day, and always.

Don't Just Vote... Volunteer!

 

CMAE Members, 

As the Government Relations Committee (GRC) worked during the summer to sponsor two legislative / elected officials’ roundtable discussions and House and Senate Candidate Interviews for Mecklenburg County, the committee made recommendations on what we believe is a stellar candidates list of new and incumbent candidates.  

The GRC Committee believes that our selection of House and Senate candidates represents the best Pro- Public Education candidates throughout the entire state and will serve our students, families, and profession well.  They are committed to bringing change to how North Carolina Legislature treats our students, families, and public education.  

We are in the final stretch of the 2020 Elections! Please take a moment of your time to contact any of our endorsed candidates and volunteer to assist in their campaign(s).  Collective ACTION is needed in order to change the direction in which our state is going as it relates to our student’s education, our families health and economic stability and mobility!  IT’S ALL ON THE BALLOT!  

 Please visit one or more of the candidate’s website below and volunteer!  We also ask that you obtain some of our Apple Cards for distribution at poll locations during early voting and Election Day if you can (Remembering to adhere to campaign distancing and COVID 19 Guidelines). Talk to you neighbors and family members nationwide encouraging them to VOTE! Some of our races for our Incumbents (Wesley Harris, Rachel Hunt, Christy Clark, and Brandon Lofton) will be tight if we don’t get our community out to Vote.  Two additional seats are also expected to be tight (Deandrea Salvdore and Terry Brown). 

Please Volunteer Today!  Thank you for all of your engagement in this most important process. Our Labor Must Include Racial and Social Justice

For some, Labor Day signals the end of summer, the change in weather, and a long awaited three-day weekend with family and friends. For us, we know Labor Day means so much more. Labor Day celebrates the contributions, struggles, and achievements of workers. Our educators work every day to create safer spaces for our students. 

The labor movement is more important than ever during these challenging times. Essential workers, including educators, are expected to go out when everyone else is expected to stay inside. There's an expectation for our schools to save the economy when most districts haven't recovered from the Great Recession.

The hardships many faced prior to the pandemic have been exposed and have come into focus during Covid-19.  Many families have lost jobs, are underemployed, or are worried about possible unemployment. 

CMAE continues to advocate for great public schools for all students and we are focused on electing candidates who understand the value of strong public schools. However, our commitment must remain broader than that. In addition, our advocacy must address issues that pertain to racial and social justice by building racial and social justice into our daily work. We know that when our society is more just, our communities are stronger, our schools do better, and our students succeed.

Thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve as President of CMAE and thank you especially for all the work you do to make both our public schools and our association one of the strongest in the nation.
