This membership type includes secretaries, classroom aides, paraprofessionals, technicians, custodians, maintenance workers, bus drivers, food service and other support personnel who work for a public educational institution in North Carolina.

Enroll as a Retired Educator.
NEA-Retired members living in North Carolina are eligible to receive liability insurance when substitute teaching without a contract, vote in elections and to hold NEA-Retired office, and to receive "This Active Life" magazine.

Enroll in Pre-Retired Membership.
This subscription enables an active member living and working in North Carolina to pre-pay the NEA-Retired dues now and receive NEA publications for NEA-Retired members. Pre-Retired subscribers have no governance rights (rights to participate in the governance of NCAE's Retired Educators Program) until retirement. Since the Pre-Retired subscriber is not a membership category, the individual must maintain his/her normal membership for which he/she is qualified, such as Active, until they qualify for retired membership. At that point the Pre-Retired Subscription is changed to Retired Life.

This membership is available to individuals enrolled in a post-secondary program in North Carolina, if that program is preparatory for employment in a position that will make them eligible for Active (educator) membership in NCAE.
